The short nswer is that a chimney typically takes anywhere from 45 to an 1 1/2 hour.  This exclude the setting up time.

Is Soot and Creosote Buildup Dangerous

These are substances created from burning that accummulate inside of the chimney. Creosote is by far the more worrisome out fo the two. Creosote is made up of unburned wood particles and flue gases.  Once there is too much buildup, it can be highly commbustible fire hazard. If not cleaned out properly, it can ignite and create an intense fireball.

What size chimney brush do i need

Measure the size of your chimney and match that size to a brush designed for your flue. The brush shold be 1/2″ – 1 inch larger than the flue. An oversize brush will not improve cleaning and could become lodged in the chimney.
